Providers integrated with Dotfile

Last updated: May 2, 2026

check is a discrete verification step that Dotfile runs on an individual or a company during an onboarding case. Each check has a status (In Progress → Processing → Need Review → Approved / Rejected/Expired) and is backed by one or more third-party providers.

Dotfile offers four categories of checks:

🌐 Online Reputation Check and 📄 Document Check have no external third-party provider. They are powered by Dotfile's built-in AI (OpenAI with Zero Data Retention).

Risk based Assessments by Check Type

Dotfile's identity verification checks are organised around four assurance levels. Higher assurance means stronger identity confidence, but also more friction for the end user. Choose the level that matches your regulatory obligations and risk appetite.

Choosing the right assurance level on the onboarding use case as well as the applicable AML/KYC obligations require at least

 ID Document Verification

Both our providers use OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to extract data from an ID document uploaded or photographed by the user. No liveness step is involved.

Liveness ID Verification

This check combines document scanning with a live selfie or short video, confirming both that the document is valid and that the person presenting it is physically present. All three of our providers cover broadly the same countries and document types.

Quick guidance

Onfido is the best default for most clients.

Checkout if you need Expert/Certified human review or PDF export is a hard requirement.

Veriff is a functional alternative when Onfido's deeper configuration is not needed.

AML Screening

AML screening checks individuals and companies against global sanction lists, PEP registers, adverse media, and fitness & probity databases. Dotfile partners with two providers, each with a distinct model.

eKYC

eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) verifies a person's identity without any document — purely by matching the data they submit (name, address, DOB, national ID) against authoritative databases: government registers, credit bureaus, telcos, utility records.

Dotfile's eKYC provider is GBG ID3global, covering 45+ countries.

Other Checks

Online Reputation Check

The Online Reputation Check is an AI-powered check that automatically searches and analyses publicly available information about a company — replacing the time-consuming manual research typically performed by compliance analysts during enhanced due diligence.

The check runs against public web sources and generates two outputs: a structured summary of relevant online mentions, and an AI-derived reputational risk comment. If the system detects insufficient information, negative signals, or suspicious patterns, the check status is set to Need Review for your team to assess. Otherwise it is approved automatically.

Document Check

The Document Check is Dotfile's native, provider-free check. It lets your team collect and manually review any document — proof of address, bank statements, certificate of incorporation, articles of association, etc.

Key points: the decision rests entirely with the analyst (no automated provider analysis), expiration tracking is built-in, and checks can be batched via Templates.

Company Data

Company data checks retrieve registry information (registration number, legal name, UBO, status, etc.) and official documents (certificate of incorporation, articles of association) for legal entities. Each country has a default provider assigned in Dotfile.

Choosing the Right Provider:

The right provider depends on your regulatory obligations, the geographies you operate in, your client volume, and how your team manages reviews. Use the ranking below to guide your selection.

Company Monitoring

Company Monitoring provides continuous surveillance of companies, automatically alerting your team when changes occur in their corporate data (see list below). Unlike point-in-time checks, monitoring remains active after activation making it well suited for ongoing due diligence obligations.

The feature is powered by CreditSafe and is configured globally in Settings › Checks › Company Monitoring. You select which categories of change to track, and the system flags relevant updates across all monitored entities.

Fraud Database — CIFAS (UK only)

The Fraud Database check queries fraud prevention databases to identify whether a person or entity has been previously flagged for fraudulent activity. It is a check where no end-user interaction is required. The result is returned instantly when launched.

Dotfile currently partners with CIFAS, which maintains the UK National Fraud Database shared across 600+ member organisations in UK financial services. Coverage is limited to the United Kingdom — entities must be associated with a UK address or identity for meaningful results.

Building a complete KYB/ KYC file

Most compliance programs combine several check types within a single onboarding template. A typical setup for a regulated financial institution might include a Liveness ID Verification, an AML Screening with monitoring enabled, a Document Check for proof of address, and an eKYC check as a secondary data validation layer all triggered automatically when a new case is opened.
