Choosing the right provider for your onboardings
Last updated: May 2, 2026
The right provider depends on your regulatory obligations, the geographies you operate in, your client volume, and how your team manages reviews. Use the questions below to guide your selection.
What is your primary regulatory obligation for individual identity verification?
If your framework requires a document scan only (e.g. internal onboarding, lower-risk clients), an ID Document Check is sufficient. If your AML/KYC policy mandates confirmation that the document holder is physically present as is standard under most EU AML directives you will need a Liveness ID Verification check instead.
Do you operate across multiple countries or document types?
For programmes with broad international coverage requirements, IDnow (ID Document) and Onfido (Liveness) offer the widest document and country support. Both are well-suited to compliance teams managing onboarding across diverse jurisdictions within a single workflow.
Does your policy require a certified, human-reviewed verification (e.g. PVID in France)?
Automated (machine-only) checks are sufficient for most standard KYC obligations. However, if your regulatory framework or internal risk policy mandates certified human review — such as PVID certification required by certain French regulated entities — only Checkout Certified provides this level, as the sole PVID-certified provider available on Dotfile.
Do you need to verify identity without collecting a physical document?
eKYC via GBG matches submitted data (name, address, date of birth, national ID) against government registers, credit bureaus, and other authoritative sources. This is particularly relevant for digital-first onboarding flows or for verifying customers who cannot easily provide physical documents. Note that GBG coverage and match rates vary significantly by country — always verify coverage for your target market before relying on eKYC as a standalone check.
What are your AML screening obligations and do you already have a vendor?
If you have no existing AML vendor, ComplyAdvantage Mesh is available directly through Dotfile with no separate contract. It covers Sanctions, PEPs, Warnings, Adverse Media, and Fitness & Probity, and includes an AI assistant that pre-qualifies the majority of alerts reducing the manual review burden on your compliance team. If your organisation already holds an active LSEG World-Check One licence, you can connect it to Dotfile; all match review and case management continue within the World-Check One interface your team already uses.
Does your due diligence process require a documented assessment of a company's online presence and reputational risk?
The Online Reputation Check automates the web intelligence research that is typically part of Enhanced Due Diligence. It is particularly relevant when onboarding higher-risk clients, companies in sensitive sectors (crypto, gambling, financial services), or entities flagged during AML screening. The check produces a structured, auditable report covering the company's web presence, public sentiment, ownership information, and legal or regulatory risk signals replacing ad-hoc manual searches and providing a consistent, documentable output for your compliance file.
Does your policy require ongoing monitoring not just point-in-time screening?
Dotfile offers two types of ongoing monitoring:
AML Monitoring can be enabled on any screened entity — Dotfile will re-alert your team if an individual or company appears on a new sanctions, PEP, or adverse media list after the initial screen.
Company Monitoring (via CreditSafe) provides continuous surveillance of corporate data director changes, financial events, shareholder movements, company status with configurable alert categories. Both are relevant for regulated entities subject to continuous customer due diligence requirements.
Do you onboard UK-based individuals or companies and need fraud prevention screening?
The Fraud Database check (via CIFAS) queries the UK National Fraud Database for prior fraud filings against an individual or company. It runs instantly, supports both entity types, and includes AI-powered result interpretation. This is particularly relevant for UK-regulated financial institutions, fintechs, and insurance firms subject to CIFAS membership obligations. Coverage is currently limited to the UK.
Do you need to collect and archive supporting documents as part of your KYC file?
The Document Check allows your team to request, collect, and review any document proof of address, corporate registration extracts, UBO declarations, and more with expiration tracking and a full review history. This is also the recommended fallback for jurisdictions where eKYC match rates are insufficient to satisfy your due diligence standards on their own.
